“Brisas del Campo” is a group that promotes and defends the human rights of sexual diversity communities in rural areas of Cabañas, El Salvador. This initiative, led by the CoCoSI Association, aims to create a space for empowerment, recognition, and visibility for this population and their rights.

The collective was founded in 2018 as a space for advocacy and recognition of LGBTIQ+ rights. Since its creation, it has worked to promote fair and equal relationships to eliminate exclusion resulting from prejudicial attitudes and society's failure to recognize diversity

Within this framework, the Brisas del Campo Collective—responding to the lived realities of LGBTI+ people in El Salvador—has been driving initiatives to: Advocate for respect of human rights, Strengthen technical capacities among key populations in rural communities of Cabañas, and Conduct political advocacy to increase commitment from relevant government institutions to support our work with high-risk and highly vulnerable populations.

Capacity building for the collective:

The Brisas del Campo collective has created a safe gathering space for all its members.
They meet monthly to:
• Learn about new topics
• Exchange personal experiences and life stories. • Build solidarity throughout the rural area of Cabañas.

How it works:
The meetings rotate through different locations in the department, intentionally including participants from several municipalities.

✓ Those ready to collectively advocate for rights.
✓ Allies committed to the population's struggle.

Educational processes:

Brisas del Campo: Community Education for LGBTQ+ Rights Founded in 2018, this collective has created learning spaces not only for its members but has also pioneered educational initiatives with: ✓ Families ✓ Community leaders ✓ Partner organizations Our Focus: Preventing violence against sexual minorities Promoting respect for historically marginalized LGBTQ+ individuals Advancing knowledge on gender identities and human rights Methodology: Through participatory workshops and dialogue, we challenge discriminatory norms while equipping communities to become active allies. Strategic Partners: With support from CoCoSI Association and ADES, we empower rural Salvadorans to drive positive change and join our collective struggle for justice.

Political Engagement:

Some of the collective’s main efforts have focused on educating the population about respect for the human rights of the LGBTQ+ community. This has been carried out through advocacy activities such as community radio programs and social media campaigns; addressing various issues that affect the LGBTQ+ population within the social contexts experienced in El Salvador through community and departmental forums; and providing training on topics aimed at educating representatives of community structures. Additionally, the collective participates in community and national marches that seek equal rights, empowerment, recognition, and visibility for this population as human beings.
